Lineage was important to the Jews of Jesus’ time. Sadly, these Biblical Mothers are often overlooked as people skip the boring list of names in the first chapter of Matthew. Therefore, here we’ll celebrate the moms, their Bible stories, and how God used them to sire our Savior, Lord, and King. Let’s dig in…
Matthew begins the lineage with Abraham, whose wife was Sarah. They are the parents of Isaac, who was married to Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau. God wrestled with Jacob and changed his name to Israel. One of his “wives” was Leah, Judah’s mother.
So far, so good, right? Nevertheless, the next generation is the one that starts getting dicey. Tamar tricked her father-in-law, Judah, into sleeping with her!
After Joseph‘s adventures in Egypt, the Exodus, and the time of the Judges, we have Ruth, the Moabite. Yes, she was a PAGAN — not an Israelite! Ruth becomes King David’s great-grandmother!
But wait! Who was Boaz’s mother? We have to keep the bloodline going. It was Rahab, the prostitute! Yes, the same Rahab — a Canaanite — who helped the Israelite spies when Joshua led them to Jericho.
God showed Rahab favor by sparing her, and she married Salmon and became the mother of Boaz.
The scandals continue with King David’s sin with Bathsheba. Instead of God choosing David’s successor to the throne from the sounds of his many wives, He chose Solomon as the next King of Israel.
The Mother of Jesus
First, let’s get something clear. Mary is the mother of Jesus, NOT the mother of God. God wasn’t born like a baby. Jesus was — making Him fully human. Mary was Jesus’ mother. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, making Jesus fully God. Here’s what you need to know about Mary:

The Mother of all Mothers
Of course, we can’t forget the mother of all mothers, Eve! In fact, she was the one who started all our problems by falling for the temptation of that slippery serpent, Satan.
She and Adam lived in Eden‘s perfect climate, with a vegan diet, in peace, walking with God. Then came the Fall of Man. Ever since then, God’s allowed Satan to tempt and deceive the world.
The First End-Times Bible Prophecy…
God said to Satan…
“And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring.
Genesis 3:15 NLT
He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”
Satan did “strike His head” at the cross, but Jesus defeated death by rising from the grave.
Likewise, He will defeat Satan after the Great Tribulation. Believe me, you don’t want to be around for that! The only way to be sure that you are saved from God’s wrath that’s yet to come (You think times are bad now!), you must surrender your life to King Jesus and be Born Again.

Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit.
- Believe — have Faith — that Jesus is the Christ and He died taking your sins away forever and that He rose from the dead 3 days later.
- Repent of your sins — stop sinning! Do a complete 180-degree turn in your life and surrender your life to Him. When you ask Jesus to forgive you He will. ALL your sins will be wiped clean — past, present, and future! And All means ALL!
- Be Baptized by water baptism — show the world and yourself that you have died to your old life and are born again in Christ.
- Receive the gift of Holy Spirit in your heart.
