A Look to the Future: God’s Warning of the End Times

I love End Times Bible Prophecy! Just like I love a good mystery novel, the Book of Revelation is the best one yet because its author is God! God loves us. He created us in His image! He does not want us to perish, but we keep sinning! We don’t listen! God is speaking to us! He is revealing what He’s going to do in the future. He’s giving everyone — living right now in the year 2020 — a chance to escape the coming Great Tribulation. We are told…

“The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.”

Deuteronomy 29:29 NLT

Let’s Recap our Story so Far…

The Rapture of Jesus’ true believers happened and we are in Heaven waiting for the 7-year Tribulation to be over. Back on earth, many wise people, who were left behind, figured out that they missed the boat by not inviting Jesus into their hearts and they are stuck on earth. Once they believe, they become the Tribulation Saints. Many of which will be martyred before the 7 years are over. The 4 horsemen of the apocalypse have done their dirty work and there are more judgements to come. The 7th seal releases the 7 trumpet judgements as we saw in Revelation 8 and 9. Where much of the earth is destroyed.

After all that….

But the people who did not die in these plagues still refused to repent of their evil deeds and turn to God. They continued to worship demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood—idols that can neither see nor hear nor walk! And they did not repent of their murders or their witchcraft or their sexual immorality or their thefts.

Revelation 9:20-21 NLT

The people still didn’t get it. They loved their sinful ways better than the Lord.

Revelation 10 – The Angel and the Small Scroll

Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven, surrounded by a cloud, with a rainbow over his head. His face shone like the sun, and his feet were like pillars of fire. And in his hand was a small scroll that had been opened. He stood with his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land. And he gave a great shout like the roar of a lion. And when he shouted, the seven thunders answered.

Revelation 10:1-3 NLT

Roaring like a Lion

A lion’s roar at night in the jungles of Africa can be heard from miles. This angel’s roar of Revelation will be heard around the world. The lion roars to establish his territory. As we will see shortly, God is establishing His Kingdom on earth.

When the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write. But I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Keep secret what the seven thunders said, and do not write it down.”

Then the angel I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand toward heaven. He swore an oath in the name of the one who lives forever and ever, who created the heavens and everything in them, the earth and everything in it, and the sea and everything in it. He said, “There will be no more delay. When the seventh angel blows his trumpet, God’s mysterious plan will be fulfilled. It will happen just as he announced it to his servants the prophets.”

Then the voice from heaven spoke to me again: “Go and take the open scroll from the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.”

So I went to the angel and told him to give me the small scroll. “Yes, take it and eat it,” he said. “It will be sweet as honey in your mouth, but it will turn sour in your stomach!” So I took the small scroll from the hand of the angel, and I ate it! It was sweet in my mouth, but when I swallowed it, it turned sour in my stomach.

Then I was told, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages, and kings.”

Revelation 9:4-11 NLT

Who are the Two Witnesses of Revelation 11?

The two Witnesses as depicted in Left Behind II: Tribulation Force (Amazon Link)

Then I was given a measuring stick, and I was told, “Go and measure the Temple of God and the altar, and count the number of worshipers. But do not measure the outer courtyard, for it has been turned over to the nations. They will trample the holy city for 42 months. And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will be clothed in burlap and will prophesy during those 1,260 days.”

These two prophets are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of all the earth. If anyone tries to harm them, fire flashes from their mouths and consumes their enemies. This is how anyone who tries to harm them must die. They have power to shut the sky so that no rain will fall for as long as they prophesy. And they have the power to turn the rivers and oceans into blood, and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they wish.

When they complete their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the bottomless pit will declare war against them, and he will conquer them and kill them. And their bodies will lie in the main street of Jerusalem, the city that is figuratively called “Sodom” and “Egypt,” the city where their Lord was crucified. And for three and a half days, all peoples, tribes, languages, and nations will stare at their bodies. No one will be allowed to bury them. All the people who belong to this world will gloat over them and give presents to each other to celebrate the death of the two prophets who had tormented them.

But after three and a half days, God breathed life into them, and they stood up! Terror struck all who were staring at them. Then a loud voice from heaven called to the two prophets, “Come up here!” And they rose to heaven in a cloud as their enemies watched.

At the same time there was a terrible earthquake that destroyed a tenth of the city. Seven thousand people died in that earthquake, and everyone else was terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

The second terror is past, but look, the third terror is coming quickly.

Revelation 11:1-14 NLT

Who are these 2 Witnesses?

Some say it’s Moses and Elijah, some say it’s Elijah and Enoch. Remember the Transfiguration? In Matthew 17:1-3, Jesus takes his disciples up to a hill and He is transformed and Moses and Elijah come down from Heaven to talk to Him. That makes me think it’s Moses and Elijah. However, in a video from AoC Network, he teaches that the two witnesses might not just be two people but two groups of people — the 144,000 new Messianic Jewish believers and the Tribulation Saints. (The video is embedded at the bottom of this post.)

The best depiction I’ve ever seen of the 2 witnesses is in the 2nd movie of the Left Behind Series II: Tribulation Force (Amazon Link). It takes scenes from books 1 and 2 of the series, Left Behind and Tribulation Force (Amazon Links).

In any rate, if you do get left behind, look for these two guys about halfway into the Great Tribulation or 3.5 years after the Rapture. And God keeps warning the people. And the people still don’t listen!

The Seventh Trumpet Brings the Third Terror

Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices shouting in heaven:

“The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ,
and he will reign forever and ever.”

The twenty-four elders sitting on their thrones before God fell with their faces to the ground and worshiped him. And they said,

“We give thanks to you, Lord God, the Almighty,
the one who is and who always was,
for now you have assumed your great power
    and have begun to reign.
The nations were filled with wrath,
but now the time of your wrath has come.
It is time to judge the dead
and reward your servants the prophets,
as well as your holy people,
and all who fear your name,
from the least to the greatest.
It is time to destroy
all who have caused destruction on the earth.”

Then, in heaven, the Temple of God was opened and the Ark of his covenant could be seen inside the Temple. Lightning flashed, thunder crashed and roared, and there was an earthquake and a terrible hailstorm.

Revelation 11:15-19

Who are the 24 Elders?

Not sure, but I figure it’s the 12 Apostles after Matthias replaces Judas Iscariot, plus all the other first leaders of the church like Paul, Luke, Mark, Silas, Stephen, John the Baptist, etc.

The 7th trumpet ushers in the completion of the Kingdom Transfer. The earth is God’s now. Anybody left, who’s not a Tribulation Saint will be destroyed.

And the Ark of the Covenant appears! We don’t need Indiana Jones!

It all does sound like a cool sci-fi movie, but honestly, God is warning the world to listen and obey. To turn from their sinful ways. Alas, many still don’t.

I now steal another prayer from The Prophetic Gallery Series Study on Revelation in the YouVersion Bible App

Father, a day is coming when our prayers are finished. There will be no more chances for people to repent. They have chosen to reject Jesus – and they will live with that choice. You empowered us to pray – and release the trumpets. You empowered us to pray – and have this world taste hell in all its evil, mankind releasing evil on one another, and to expose their hatred of Jesus and His kingdom. Now I see how powerful our prayers are. When I pray for Your kingdom to come, I see that it showed Your power to deliver us, to protect us, but also to use us to show this world the true nature of their hearts. So help us faithfully do this – and pray that Your kingdom comes soon (Maranatha – come Lord Jesus!). In Jesus Name, Amen.

“And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.”
