The Truth about Replacement Theology and Antisemitism

Here I’m tackling two touchy subjects: Replacement Theology and Antisemitism. Why? Because they are tied together and unfortunately, tied to the Catholic Church. This is what happens when you start digging, you never know what you’ll uncover whether good or bad. Here, it’s all bad.

Some years ago when I owned my own house, I watched many home improvement shows. I enjoyed watching the house flippers. They’d take an old house, tear it down, and build it up again to hopefully sell it at a profit. What was interesting was seeing the contractor show the owner after they’ve torn down a wall, that something needed to be totally replaced — usually the plumbing or electrical, but sometimes it was the foundation.

You can easily replace walls, flooring, paint, and even electrical and plumbing, but if the foundation is rotten or cracked, it’s no good. The whole house could crumble. Think about that as you read, listen to, and or watch the material I’ve covered here. And, of course, we always come back to the Bible — which should be everyone’s solid foundation.

What is Replacement Theology

Basically, it’s a belief that the Church replaced the original covenant of God with Israel. Many Christian pastors teach this erroneously. They are erasing the Old Testament and Israel. Not being a scholar, I am deferring to 2 short videos where experts explain it. It’s commonly referred to as “dispensationalism” and the theological term for it is “supersessionism” — where the church supersedes Israel.

The Roots of Replacement Theology

Unfortunately, the roots of replacement theology are also the roots of antisemitism. Moreover, they go back — way back — in the history of the church.

“If anyone celebrates the Passover along with the Jews he partakes with those who killed the Lord.”

Ignatius of Antioch, c. 100 AD

“You Jews have reached the climax of your wickedness, by your hatred against the Righteous One Whom you have killed.”

Justin, c. 165 AD

“The course of history will show that the Jews have been rejected by God and that the church took the place of Israel.”

Chrysostom, 386 AD

Yet, they, at this time, also adopted the traditions of pagan religions. Which, makes you stop and think about where their true devotions lie. And, come to think of it, Jesus’ crucifixion happened c. 33 AD, and by 100 & 165 AD, anyone who was alive then was long gone! What they were saying makes absolutely no sense!

I got those quotes from this video…

Let’s recap…

  • The church supposedly replaces Israel
  • Rome replaces Jerusalem
  • Spiritualizing prophecy instead of literal explanation
  • Pagan rituals replace biblical customs
  • Babylonian feasts replace Biblical feasts
  • Sunday replaces the Sabbath
  • Purgatory replaces the Kingdom of God
  • Mary replaces Jesus as the prime person to worship.

What is Antisemitism?

Simply put, it’s the hatred of the Jewish people because of religion, race, and culture. From that video, and those quotes, you can see how the early church fathers instigated it. You cannot erase the Old Testament. You cannot erase Israel. You cannot erase the Jews. Gee, it sounds like the new “cancel culture”. So, the cancel culture started back in the 100s? Yikes!

The Jews are also hated because they tend to be good businesspeople — smart, wealthy, and prosperous.

Huh? Again, as I was digging for information, I uncovered the root of antisemitism: Usury.

What is Usury?

Usury is the loaning of money with interest and it was prohibited by the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) in 1745 by Pope Benedict IV because it stemmed from greed. Of course, greed is one of the 7 Deadly Sins. Remarkably, the RCC got rich in the 14th century by inventing Purgatory and Indulgences — the great Catholic scam.

With that, money-lending fell to the Jews who helped people prosper. Protestants were fine with it. Moreover, the Catholics fell deeper into poverty. Sadly, here’s where the hatred of the Jews began — only because they became good, prosperous, business people — capitalists.1

When I read this, I thought, “Well, that explains it!” It stems from one of the 10 Commandments — covetousness — aka jealousy.

God told Abram way back in Genesis…

2 “I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”

Genesis 12:2-3 (emphasis mine)

Do you think God could have been any clearer?

I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt.

And the next line refers to Jesus…

All the families on earth will be blessed through you.

Paul wrote in Romans

16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.

Romans 1:16 (emphasis mine)

So the Good News — the Gospel — of Jesus’ salvation was for the Jews first, then the Gentiles. The Jews wanted Jesus to take over as King right then and there and get rid of the Romans. The Jewish leaders didn’t want Him to usurp their power — which is why they — the Jewish leaders — had Him killed. Nevertheless, the first Christians were Jews!

When Jesus returns, it will be to Jerusalem, in Israel — the Promised Land. In the Book of Revelation, we read that God will use the Jews in the end times.

And I heard how many were marked with the seal of God—144,000 were sealed from all the tribes of Israel…

Revelation 7:4 NLT

Those 144,000 will then go and preach the Good News to all the people left behind after the Rapture and warn them not to take the mark of the beast.

Where do you stand?

Jesus Christ is coming back soon! It’s going to matter.

If you’re not sure if you’re saved or not, if you truly want to be born again and have the assurance of salvation, receive the Holy Spirit, feel His Shalom — a peace that surpasses all understanding, and get a 1-way, non-stop ticket to Heaven after you die, or that you won’t be left behind at the Rapture, which can happen at any moment, this is what you have to do…

Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit.

  • Believe — have Faith — that Jesus is the Christ and He died taking your sins away forever and that He rose from the dead 3 days later.
  • Repent of your sins — stop sinning! Do a complete 180-degree turn in your life and surrender your life to Him. When you ask Jesus to forgive you He will. ALL your sins will be wiped clean — past, present, and future! And All means ALL!
  • Be Baptized by water baptism — show the world and yourself that you have died to your old life and are born again in Christ.
  • Receive the gift of Holy Spirit in your heart.

Invite Jesus into Your Heart and Receive the Gift of Grace, Joy, Peace, and the Confident Hope of Eternal Life…

Pray this prayer humbly and wholeheartedly…

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Please forgive me. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and my life to you. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. I surrender my whole life to you and I will follow you for the rest of my life. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Next Steps in Your New Walk with Jesus…

  1. Start reading the Bible daily to get to know God. If you don’t have one, I recommend the YouVersion, Bible.app and Through the Word app — both are free and have a lot of great Bible studies.
  2. Pray every day. Talk to God. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you daily.
  3. Find and join a Bible-believing church — preferably a non-denominational one and be baptized!
