Voting Christian: We Need to Seek the Advice of Holy Spirit

Voting Christian: We Need to Seek the Advice of the Holy Spirit

According to a recent report from the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University, as many as 104 million people of faith are unlikely to vote in this upcoming election — and among those, 32 million self-identified Christians, who regularly attend church, won’t vote at all. What I hope to do with this article is to show the importance of Voting Christian Biblical Worldview...

When I got all the booklets and pamphlets for “What’s on My Ballot?” I groaned. I thought, “Seriously! I have to go through all this?!” To be an informed voter, yes, I do.

I encourage you to watch this video. Both these pastors were born and raised in California and bless their hearts, they feel called to stay there and stand firm for Christ.

Tom Hughes and Jack Hibbs: Should Christians Vote?

As Christians, we are to be Salt and Light

Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount…

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Matthew 5:13-16 NLT

The Parable of the Talents

Jesus said…

14 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. 15 He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip.

16 “The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. 17 The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. 18 But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money.

19 “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. 20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’

21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’

22 “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’

23 “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’

24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’

26 “But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, 27 why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’

28 “Then he ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver. 29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away. 30 Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Matthew 25:14-30 NLT

You don’t want to be like the useless servant!

The Bible speaks about choosing (voting)…

14 “So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. 15 But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:14-15 NLT (emphasis mine)

As Pastor Jack explained in the video, America is a Constitutional Republic — NOT a Democracy. We are responsible for choosing our leaders. It’s our right as American citizens — our responsibility and a gift to be voting Christian and choosing our leaders.

When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice.
But when the wicked are in power, they groan.

Proverbs 29:2 NLT

Have you been groaning for the last 4 years? I groan every time I go grocery shopping, get gas, or see my electric bill. As Ronald Reagan asked, when he was running for President the first time, “Are you better off now than 4 years ago?”

No, I’m not. I’m struggling. God is providing, but I’m struggling. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of struggling. My monthly grocery bill went up $100. For a single, senior woman who lives alone, that’s a lot!

Here’s one of my favorites:

When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily.
But wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability.

Proverbs 28:2 NLT

Do you think we’ve got “wise and knowledgeable leaders” right now? Or stability? I’m not saying that the Republicans are perfect — of course not! Last I heard, Jesus is not on the ballot for any of these races! We’re not voting to hire pastors so the character rolls in 1 and 2 Timothy don’t apply.

Here’s what the Lord told the Jews when they were being sent to spend 70 years in exile in pagan Babylon…

“Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce. Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them so that you may have many grandchildren. Multiply! Do not dwindle away! And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.”

Jeremiah 29:5-7 NLT (emphasis mine)

This made sense. It’s what Daniel did. He and his friends made the best of it. As did Ezekiel. The welfare of our country will determine your — our — welfare!

It’s not good to vote for a Californian…

Pastor Jack Hibbs

We, as Christians, have a voice right now. If the Marxists win and we lose our freedoms:

  • Freedom of Speech — that’s almost gone!
  • Freedom of Religion — they’re censoring us there, too!
  • Right to vote.
  • Right to live where we want.
  • The right to own a gun to protect ourselves.
  • The right to purchase what we can afford — if we can afford it — which includes cars, and pick-up trucks.

If God’s people show up to vote for righteousness’s sake — in full numbers — then let the enemy cheat all they want because it will be landslide wins everywhere. However, if you say to God, “I’m not going to bother”, “It’ll take too much time”, or “I can’t vote for so-and-so”, then we’ll get what deserve.

Additionally, if you’re thinking that it can’t get any worse before Jesus comes back for His born-again believers in the Rapture, friend, it can and it will. We don’t know how long it will be. Only God the Father knows.

Some of you may not remember or are too young to remember, but 30 minutes after Ronald Reagan was sworn in as President on January 20, 1981, Iran released the American hostages they had been holding for 444 days. That’s the difference between a weak President, Jimmy Carter, and a strong leader.

We’ve got the weakest President since Jimmy Carter right now and we’ve got 101 hostages — 5 of them Americans — being held by Hamas and other Islamic terrorists in Gaza since October 7, 2023. I pray that Donald Trump gets elected and the moment they see that in Gaza, they release all the hostages.

How Do You Ask the Holy Spirit for Disernment?

First, it helps to have the Holy Spirit in your heart. You can only have that with a 1:1 relationship with Jesus Christ. When you surrender your life to Him by repenting of your sins, He forgives you once and for all and gives you the Gifts of…

  • Salvation — which includes a one-way, non-stop ticket to Heaven when you die or that you won’t get left behind at the Rapture.
  • The Holy Spirit — which sanctifies you and is a helper and guide for your life. He will give you wisdom and discernment when you ask Him.
  • Shalom — a peace that surpasses all understanding.
  • Immense Joy that supersedes anything this earth can provide.
  • A Confident Hope that this world is not all there is.
Jesus knocking at the door of your heart.
Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart.
Isn’t it about time you let Him in?

A Prayer for Engaging with Politics

Lord, you supply our every need. We praise you and thank you for the
provisions you’ve given to us, including our home, city, and nation.
For our current government, we thank you. By it we are provided with
many blessings we could not otherwise enjoy.

Let us take notice of the needs of our community. May our work, service,
and generosity allow the blessings you have given us to overflow to more
people. Equip us with discernment and care to resist evil and bring about
peace here on the Earth.

Jesus, be the unrelenting mediator between those whom we agree and
disagree with politically, between us and other Christians, between us and
those who have never had a relationship with you, and in all of our political
dealings with others. Please remind us that our behavior and treatment of
others are the boldest evidence of our love for you.

Grant us the privilege of seeing people from your perspective. Give us the
humility and patience we need to listen to and understand the concerns of
others and to learn from them. Equip us with your compassion that we might
consider the needs of others our own. Establish your grace in our hearts so
that we may bear your name well as ambassadors for your kingdom.

Let our commitment to Jesus’ way of living prevail over the opinions of our
varied political stances. Let us be ambassadors of your kingdom during our
time on Earth. Let us engage thoughtfully in politics to bring about peace in
the world without forming disdain, jealousy, or hostility toward others.
Teach us each day the way of Jesus. May the outworking of the gospel
always be evident in our political engagement. Amen
