Lent is a time of personal reflection. Are you striving to be Christ-like? Are you striving to be Christ-like 100% of the time, or only when people are watching?
A Lot of Today’s TV Shows are Offensive
I am frustrated with TV shows. I like dramas. I stopped watching these TV shows because they introduced a homosexual character.
- Grey’s Anatomy
- New Amsterdam
- 9-1-1
- 9-1-1 Lone Star
- All Rise
- Tommy
- Station 19
- Bluff City Law
I stared watching SWAT again, because they dropped the threesome relationship.
And I’m very close to quitting two of my favorites, Chicago Fire—because they have not 1, but 2 gay characters—and NCIS New Orleans, where they’re starting to play up one of the agent’s gay love life.
Why do powerful women have to be lesbians?
Why do they have to flaunt it?
Moreover, it doesn’t look like it’s going back in the closet anytime soon.
“The LGBTQ population of America is 4.5 percent today. However, the advocacy group GLAAD successfully persuaded networks to make LGBTQ characters on prime-time broadcast TV exceed 10 percent of the total. They now want 20 percent representation by 2025.”
Dr. Jim Denison at Denison Forum
That’s disgusting.
TV Influenced my Life
I have to admit, my prodigal, adult life of my 20s and 30s was influenced by the TV shows of the 60s and 70s. I couldn’t wait to live the fun, party lifestyle.
Which goes to prove this passage from Matthew where Jesus says…
“Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!”
Matthew 6:22-23 NLT
“And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.”
Matthew 18:9 NLT
You don’t have to gauge your eye out. Just turn off the TV. Read a good book–like the Bible!
I’ve also started watching encouraging YouTube videos from various Christians like:
Time for Personal Reflection — Look Inside Yourself
Take a good look at your life this Lenten season and purge anything ungodly from it. Just because you can confess it to a priest, doesn’t make it right in God’s eyes. Think of it this way… if Jesus was sitting next to you watching TV, at the movies, or even reading a book–would He approve?
“For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.”
Galatians 5:13 NLT
True repentance is the key to salvation.
If you’re not sure if you’re saved or not, if you truly want to be born again and have the assurance of salvation, receive the Holy Spirit, feel His Shalom — a peace that surpasses all understanding, and get a 1-way, non-stop ticket to Heaven after you die, or that you won’t be left behind at the Rapture, which can happen at any moment, this is what you have to do…
Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit.
- Believe — have Faith — that Jesus is the Christ and He died taking your sins away forever and that He rose from the dead 3 days later.
- Repent of your sins — stop sinning! Do a complete 180-degree turn in your life and surrender your life to Him. When you ask Jesus to forgive you He will. ALL your sins will be wiped clean — past, present, and future! And All means ALL!
- Be Baptized by water baptism — show the world and yourself that you have died to your old life and are born again in Christ.
- Receive the gift of Holy Spirit in your heart.
Invite Jesus into Your Heart and Receive the Gift of Grace, Joy, Peace, and the Confident Hope of Eternal Life…
