Showdown time! It’s the 3rd year of the drought in the northern kingdom of Israel. The Demonic Duo, Ahab and Jezebel, managed to turn the Israelites away from the true God and got them to worship the worthless, fake god, Baal. Now, Baal was supposedly the god of the sky. So, he was in charge of the rain. The prophets of Baal had been trying for 3 years to get it to rain, to no avail. That’s what happens when you pray to things that don’t exist — NOTHING.
Enter God’s prophet. Elijah, as we read in yesterday’s chapter, raised a boy from the dead in the 1st recorded resurrection in the Bible! Jesus would later raise several people from the dead, including his friend Lazarus. Likewise, God raised Jesus from the dead to leave an empty tomb and conquer death once and for all!
Today, in one of the best Bible stories, Elijah puts the false god, Baal, to the test. Guess who wins? Let’s dig in…
