Sparing no expense. That’s the theme of today’s chapter as Solomon not only finishes the temple decorating, but builds himself a palace. It took him 7 years to build the temple and 13 years to build his palace. This reminded me of a TV show back in the mid 80s – early 90s, “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous“. It featured Robin Leach traveling all over the world touring mansions and living the high life of the rich and famous. That is where we’re going with Solomon’s story.
In the 80s, I got to travel around Italy and I visited cathedrals in every city. For me, the most breathtaking one was the cathedral in Milan. I didn’t know what to expect when I turned the corner and faced the marvelous gothic structure. I gasped. It literally took my breath away.
I got to tour the inside. It was marvelous.
Yesterday, we compared the mobile tabernacle that housed the Ark of the Covenant, while the Israelites were traveling for 40 years in wilderness, to the more permanent temple Solomon built. Alas, does God need or want such extravagance? Keep that thought in mind as we go through this next chapter. Let’s dig in…
