Jesus is the First and the Last: The Beginning and the End

Jesus calls himself the “alpha and omega” — the first and the last — in the first chapter of the Book of Revelation written by the Apostle John. However, in John’s first writing, the Gospel of John, he tells us how Jesus is the beginning of everything.

Jesus Created the World

In the beginning the Word [Logos in Greek] already existed.
    The Word was with God,
    and the Word was God.
He [Jesus] existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through him [Jesus],
and nothing was created except through him [Jesus].
The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it…

He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

So the Word became human and made his home [dwelt] among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

John 1:1-5; 10-14 NLT

Jesus Will End the World

Everything has an end… plants, animals, insects, birds, people, and the world. As Jesus is the beginning, He is also the end. As John writes in the Book of Revelation…

This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants the events that must soon take place. He sent an angel to present this revelation to his servant John, who faithfully reported everything he saw. This is his report of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near.

John’s Greeting to the Seven Churches

This letter is from John to the seven churches in the province of Asia.

Grace and peace to you from the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come; from the sevenfold Spirit before his throne; and from Jesus Christ. He is the faithful witness to these things, the first to rise from the dead, and the ruler of all the kings of the world.

All glory to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us. He has made us a Kingdom of priests for God his Father. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven.
    And everyone will see him—
    even those who pierced him.
And all the nations of the world
    will mourn for him.
Yes! Amen! (The Rapture)

“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”

Revelation 1:1-8 NLT

Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. John also describes the Rapture. The word “revelation” means an unveiling — an understanding. Believe me, when the Rapture happens and all the true, born-again, Christian believers are carried off to Heaven, all those left behind will notice.

“Even those who pierced him.” — meaning the all the Jews that never acknowledged Jesus as their Messiah. Imagine when all Christians from all over the world are gone. Those left behind will be sorry they missed the boat.

We are Living in the Last Days

Today there was a 6.5 magnitude earthquake near Tonopah, Nevada. There have been 71 aftershocks in 16 hours after the quake struck. Over in Puerto Rico, they average 500 quakes every 3 weeks between 2.0 and 4.4 magnitude. They had a 5.4M earthquake on May 2, in Ponce which caused extensive damage to historic buildings as well as a museum. (Follow EveryEarthquake on Twitter.)

Swarms of locusts are devouring crops throughout Northern Africa. Over on the West Coast of the U.S. the “Murder Hornet” has arrived from Asia. They like to feast on honey bees. The good news is the praying mantis likes to feed on the hornets. Pestilence causes famines especially when a country is solely dependent on agriculture.

And, of course, the COVID-19 virus pandemic continues to cause havoc all over the world as researchers try to come up with a vaccine or cure and businesses are trying to reopen. Churches in many states are planning to start meeting again. My church plans on opening for May 31st which is Pentecost! I pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit all over the world!

Oh, and I almost forgot! ISIS terrorists, who have been hiding in the Iraqi countryside started attacking again.

Jesus Warned us of the Birth Pains…

From Luke 21

“Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, and there will be famines and plagues in many lands, and there will be terrifying things and great miraculous signs from heaven….

“And there will be strange signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. People will be terrified at what they see coming upon the earth, for the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, for your salvation is near!”

Luke 21:10-11; 25-28 NLT

From Matthew 24

Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come…

And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.

Matthew 24:7-8; 30-31 NLT

From Mark 13…

Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in many parts of the world, as well as famines. But this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come….

Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with great power and glory. And he will send out his angels to gather his chosen ones from all over the world—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.

Mark 13:8; 26-27 NLT

When God repeats something over and over again, that means that He wants us to understand it clearly.

In fact, Jesus said…

“Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This phrase is repeated 14 times in scripture. God wants us to pay attention.

My question to you is … Will you be left behind? Will you be part of those who mourn Jesus because you missed the boat?

If you want the assurance of a 1-way, non-stop ticket to Heaven and that you won’t be left behind, this is what you have to do…

Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit.

  • Believe — have Faith — that Jesus is the Christ and He died taking your sins away forever and that He rose from the dead 3 days later.
  • Repent of your sins — stop sinning! Do a complete 180-degree turn in your life and surrender your life to Him. When you ask Jesus to forgive you He will. ALL your sins will be wiped clean — past, present, and future! And All means ALL!
  • Be Baptized by water baptism — show the world and yourself that you have died to your old life and are born again in Christ.
  • Receive the gift of Holy Spirit in your heart.

Invite Jesus into Your Heart and Receive the Gift of Grace, Joy, Peace, and the Confident Hope of Eternal Life…

Pray this prayer humbly and wholeheartedly…

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Please forgive me. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life to you. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. I will follow you for the rest of my life. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Jesus said…

“And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.”

Matthew 24:14

Remember the 5 Solas?

The 5 Solas

  1. Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”): The Bible alone is our highest authority.
  2. Sola Fide (“Faith alone”): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
  3. Sola Gratia (“Grace alone”): We are saved by the grace of God alone.
  4. Solus Christus (“Christ alone”): Jesus Christ alone is our Savior, Redeemer, Lord, and King
  5. Soli Deo Gloria (“to God alone be the Glory.”): It’s all about God, not us.

A church can’t save you. A priest can’t save you. Only Jesus can save you.

Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit.
