Druze children and teens murdered by Hezbollah on July 27, 2024.

Who are the Druze People that the Hezbollah Terrorists Attacked?

Though the Druze people group isn’t a major world religion, I felt they needed a blog post because they unfortunately are in Breaking News headlines. Who are they? What do they believe? Where did the Druze religion start? Are they Israeli? Let’s dig in…

The Druze children did not have enough time to get into the bomb shelter before the Hezbollah rocket hit.

On July 27, 2024, a Hezbollah rocket from somewhere in Lebanon — provided by Iran — hit a civilian, Druze town in the Golan Heights in Northern Israel. It landed in the middle of a soccer (football) field where Druze children were playing. The alarm sounded, but the rocket hit seconds later and they did not have enough time to get inside their bomb shelter. It killed 12 children and youth under 20 years old and injured 29.

Lord, Jesus, comfort and heal the traumatized, the wounded, and the grieving. May they feel your love and grow closer to you. Amen.

Israel’s Iron Dome system, which is supposed to catch and destroy missiles in the air, didn’t work because of the mountainous region.

Yet, when Hezbollah found out they hit a Druze town, they denied that it was theirs. They blamed the Israeli Iron Dome, which did not go off at all.

The Druze are a tightly-knight, segregated, religious group found in Lebanon, Syria, Northern Israel, and other parts of the world. They broke off Islam in the 11th century (1000s). Here are some of their beliefs and customs…

  • They added mysticism to Islamic beliefs, thus separating themselves from Muslims.
  • They believe in reincarnation.
  • Druze is to Islam like Mormonism is to Christianity.
  • They marry within their people group, so everyone is related.
  • The Druze in Israel serve in the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and support Israel.
  • The Druze of the Golan Heights — which once was part of Syria — are residents of Israel.
  • When Israel was evacuating the northern areas at the time when Hezbollah started bombing Israel after the Oct. 7th attack, the Druze refused to leave their communities.
  • Since the Gaza war started, their economy has suffered due to the loss of tourism, and agriculture — since there’s no one to pick the produce.
  • Because of the large number of Druze in Lebanon, Hezbollah fears an uprising against them in retaliation for the attack. (See the bottom video with an update as of this posting.)

Israel News Update – July 31, 2024

Trusted News Sources

Be careful who you listen to or watch for news. The main-stream media channels either don’t report all the news from the Middle East or they report it with an anti-semitic, left-wing bias. It’s taken me a long time to vet news sources and settle on the ones which I feel are not only current, but report with truth and accuracy.

Besides the ones that I’ve featured in this post, here are some other trusted MIddle East and Israel news sources…
