Psalm 45 - A Palm Sunday Ode of Praise & Glory to the King of kings!

Psalm 45 – A Palm Sunday Ode of Praise & Glory to the King of kings!

Yes, Jesus is the King before whom all nations will bow! However, this psalm talks about a bride. Who is the Bride? The Bride is Us, the church, the born-again believers. Let’s dig in…

Psalm 45

For the choir director: A love song to be sung to the tune “Lilies.” A psalm of the descendants of Korah. (We learned who Korah and his sons were a few posts ago.) Let’s read it through first, then we’ll break it up and dig deeper.

Beautiful words stir my heart.
I will recite a lovely poem about the king,
for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.

You are the most handsome of all.
Gracious words stream from your lips.
God himself has blessed you forever.
Put on your sword, O mighty warrior!
You are so glorious, so majestic!
In your majesty, ride out to victory,
    defending truth, humility, and justice.
Go forth to perform awe-inspiring deeds!
Your arrows are sharp, piercing your enemies’ hearts.
The nations fall beneath your feet.

Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever.
You rule with a scepter of justice.
You love justice and hate evil.
Therefore God, your God, has anointed you,
pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.
Myrrh, aloes, and cassia perfume your robes.
In ivory palaces the music of strings entertains you.
Kings’ daughters are among your noble women.
At your right side stands the queen,
wearing jewelry of finest gold from Ophir!

10 Listen to me, O royal daughter; take to heart what I say.
Forget your people and your family far away.
11 For your royal husband delights in your beauty;
honor him, for he is your lord.
12 The princess of Tyre will shower you with gifts.
The wealthy will beg your favor.
13 The bride, a princess, looks glorious
    in her golden gown.
14 In her beautiful robes, she is led to the king,
    accompanied by her bridesmaids.
15 What a joyful and enthusiastic procession
as they enter the king’s palace!

16 Your sons will become kings like their father.
You will make them rulers over many lands.
17 I will bring honor to your name in every generation.
Therefore, the nations will praise you forever and ever.

Psalm 45 NLT

Let’s delve deeper into this beautiful praise song…

Beautiful words stir my heart.
I will recite a lovely poem about the king,
for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.

You are the most handsome of all.
Gracious words stream from your lips.
God himself has blessed you forever.

Go forth to perform awe-inspiring deeds!
Your arrows are sharp, piercing your enemies’ hearts.
The nations fall beneath your feet.

Psalm 45:1-5 NLT

This is all laid out in the Book of Revelation

Your throne, O God, (Your Divine Throne) endures forever and ever.
You rule with a scepter of justice.

Psalm 45:6 NLT

Luke wrote when Jesus’ birth was announced to Mary…

31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!”

Luke 1:31-33 NLT

It is fulfilled in the Book of Revelation

16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

KING OF KINGS AND
LORD OF LORDS.

Revelation 19:16 NKJV

And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.

Revelation 21:5-7 NLT

You love justice and hate evil.

Psalm 45:7 NLT

Jesus also said in Revelation….

“But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

Revelation 21:8 NLT

Therefore God, your God, has anointed you,
pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.
Myrrh, aloes, and cassia perfume your robes.
In ivory palaces the music of strings entertains you.

Psalm 45:7b-8 NLT

When the angel announced the birth of Jesus to the shepherds, they said…

“Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. 11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!

Luke 2:10-11 NLT

“Messiah” means “anointed one” in Hebrew. They were Jewish shepherds. “Christ” means “anointed one” in Greek. Jesus is the Christ. Myrrh was one of the spices the women took to anoint Jesus’ body on Easter morning.

The writer of Hebrews quotes this psalm in Hebrews 1:7-12.

Kings’ daughters are among your noble women.
At your right side stands the queen,
wearing jewelry of finest gold from Ophir!

10 Listen to me, O royal daughter; take to heart what I say.
Forget your people and your family far away.
11 For your royal husband delights in your beauty;
honor him, for he is your lord.

Psalm 45:9-15 NLT

In Revelation 19, the Wedding Feast is Described…

Invitied to the wedding feast of the Lamb
Have You Rejected YOUR invitation to the Wedding Feast?

For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb,
and his bride has prepared herself.
She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.”
For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people.

Revelation 19:7b-8 NLT

Paul wrote…

For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself. I promised you as a pure bride (a virgin) to one husband—Christ.

2 Corinthians 11:2 NLT

To qualify as a pure virgin bride, the church — the believers — MUST be BORN AGAIN! Remember, Jesus hates evil. Only sanctified people get into Heaven. Therefore, you can ONLY enter by repenting and believing that Jesus took your sins away once and for all time.

16 Your sons will become kings like their father.
You will make them rulers over many lands.
17 I will bring honor to your name in every generation.
Therefore, the nations will praise you forever and ever.

Psalm 45:16-17 NLT

Yes, this speaks to the sons of Solomon who will be kings over Israel and Judah, but rulers of many lands? That’s bigger. That could only be in the future. See, we believers, when we receive the Holy Spirit, we become children of God.

Paul wrote….

14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.

Romans 8:14 NLT
He also wrote…

11 For it is written:

As I live, says the Lord,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.”

Romans 14:11 NKJV

And finally in Revelation, in Jesus’ letter to the church in Thyatira, He wrote…

26 To all who are victorious, who obey me to the very end,

To them I will give authority over all the nations.
27 They will rule the nations with an iron rod
and smash them like clay pots.

28 They will have the same authority I received from my Father, and I will also give them the morning star!

29 “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.

Revelation 2:26-29 NLT

The Royal Wedding is Coming!

I turn now to the folks at Spoken Gospel…

God’s chosen Groom and King is Jesus. Jesus is the truthful King who conquers lies (Luke 4:12-13; John 14:6; Isaiah 53:9). Jesus is the humble King who serves others (John 13:14-15). Jesus is the conqueror of death who went to the grave, only to rise from it because death could not keep him (Acts 2:24). Jesus is the mighty warrior of gracious speech, and the ultimate victor over evil. And this King Jesus intends to marry the bride his church, given to him by God if they are willing to accept his intense affection.

The whole world is moving toward this great and cosmic wedding day (Revelation 21:2). We are called to leave our former life behind and join Jesus’ royal home. If we accept the affection and love that drove him to die on the cross, he will make us spotless and beautiful (Ephesians 5:25-27). Like no bride has shone before, we will shine with the glory of God (Revelation 21:9-11). And if we accept his affection, our new home will be with King Jesus forever!

But God’s church isn’t simply his bride, but also his children (Hebrews 2:13). When we join ourselves to Jesus in love, we also become royal heirs of God’s universal Kingdom. And God gives to us the responsibility and right to rule the world with justice and extend his Kingdom throughout the earth (Revelation 22:5).

Now go back to the top and read this allowed to Jesus. Put yourself in the Bride’s shoes.

Are YOU In?

Only a person who’s heart is filled with the Holy Spirit can read that psalm and recognize that back in 970 BC — some 3,000 years ago — a songwriter described the Jewish Messiah — Yeshua Ha-Maschiach — Jesus, the Christ. King of kings, who will rule on His throne forever and ever with His Bride, the Church!

The catch here is that you MUST be Born Again to be included in the Wedding Feast of the Lamb.

If you’re not sure if you’re saved or not, if you truly want to be born again and have the assurance of salvation, receive the Holy Spirit, feel His Shalom — a peace that surpasses all understanding, and get a 1-way, non-stop ticket to Heaven after you die, or that you won’t be left behind at the Rapture, which can happen at any moment, this is what you have to do…

Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit.

  • Believe — have Faith — that Jesus is the Christ and He died taking your sins away forever and that He rose from the dead 3 days later.
  • Repent of your sins — stop sinning! Do a complete 180-degree turn in your life and surrender your life to Him. When you ask Jesus to forgive you He will. ALL your sins will be wiped clean — past, present, and future! And All means ALL!
  • Be Baptized by water baptism — show the world and yourself that you have died to your old life and are born again in Christ.
  • Receive the gift of Holy Spirit in your heart.

Invite Jesus into Your Heart and Receive the Gift of Grace, Joy, Peace, and the Confident Hope of Eternal Life…

Behold

King of Kings
