Walking the Straight and Narrow Road of Life with Jesus

Go with the flow! Boy, that phrase got me into trouble — a lot! Just because everyone else is doing it, doesn’t make it the right thing to do. That’s one of the problems with today’s culture. It’s heading down the road to hell.

Jesus told us…

13 “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14 But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

Matthew 7:13-14

The Straight and Narrow

“Walking the straight and narrow” — that phrase describes a person who lives righteously, resists temptation, has integrity and good morals. That’s a life of a repentant sinner. That’s a person who reads the Bible daily and obeys the Word of God.

Only a few find the small gate and the narrow road to life. Jesus said it. That makes it true. When you “go with the flow” it leads to destruction. When you follow Jesus, it leads to everlasting life.

Anything worth doing is not easy. Take losing weight for instance. Going with the flow, the masses, everybody else, eating what you want, what tastes good, what makes you feel good (temporarily), leads to obesity, difficulty getting around, discrimination, diabetes, joint pain… I can go on.

People are Lazy!

I see that each time I go to the supermarket and see shopping carts left not 10 paces from the corral. People can’t take the time to push the cart to the where it belongs.

When we sacrifice our laziness and start walking, swimming, playing sports, hiking, working out, going up the stairs instead of the taking elevator, just getting up off the couch and moving, and controlling what we put in our mouths, we lose weight, we look better and feel better. Even putting the shopping cart away makes you feel good. You accomplished something.

The same goes for living the Christian life as followers of Jesus. We sacrifice ourselves for the sin-free life that Jesus gave us when He took our sins to the cross. Not a bad compromise when you look at it. He gave his Life. We surrender ourselves and live. Wow.

Take the narrow road.

What Does that Mean?

It means reading — studying — God’s instruction book — the Bible — daily. God gave us specific instructions on how we should live, how to handle conflicts, problems, trials, turmoil, and the stuff that life throws at us.

Likewise, it means attending church every Sunday and serving — volunteering — as well. Also, it means praying with an attitude of gratitude every day. Just talk to God. Ask Him for what you need in Jesus’ name. Ask Him sincerely and with a repentant heart.

Jesus said,

33 “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33 NLT

When you believe that Jesus is your personal Lord and Savior, you, too overcome the world! That’s a promise! It doesn’t mean that you’ll have a sweet, carefree life. What it does mean is that if you endure — without falling off the narrow road — you have a promised reward in Heaven!

It’s Your Choice!

You can continue “going with the flow” of culture and society, directly down the wide road to eternal hell OR you can choose Eternal Life with Jesus.

If you’re not sure if you’re saved or not, if you truly want to be born again and have the assurance of salvation, receive the Holy Spirit, feel His Shalom — a peace that surpasses all understanding, and get a 1-way, non-stop ticket to Heaven after you die, or that you won’t be left behind at the Rapture, which can happen at any moment, this is what you have to do…

Invite Jesus into Your Heart and Receive the Gift of Grace, Joy, Peace, and the Confident Hope of Eternal Life…
