We’ve gone through the first 8 books of the Bible in the Old Testament. In case you didn’t know, the Old Testament Books are not in chronological order. For instance, according to the site, Bible Timeline, the story of Ruth takes place circa 1140 BC, right after the story of Gideon. Whoever put the Bible as we know it together would have to have stuck Ruth’s love story in between Gideon and Abimelech and would ruin the overall theme of the Book of Judges.
Nevertheless, today, I’m starting a different way of going through the Old Testament — in historical sequence. If you look at Bible Timeline, you’ll see that Samuel is born during the time of Judges 11-16, circa 1100 BC.
First we meet Samuel’s mom, Hannah. She’s suffering because she is childless. It’s her fervent prayer and vow to God that makes this story special. Look for hints of Jesus, the Messiah — Yeshua Ha-Mashiach — in this story. Let’s dig in….
