France is Burning

France is a battlefield: riots, arson, baseball bats, guns, fireworks, and stones, with the hours of darkness, at the hands of gangs of young Muslims, following whole days of riots and loss of control over the country. Incidentally, the riots are in protest of the death of a Muslim/Algerian teenager by police a few days ago. The policeman in question is in custody.

This has escalated into a Muslim intifada in France, and disturbances, which are only getting worse, spread tonight to dozens of cities throughout the country: public buildings were set on fire — including the library at Marseilles, shops looted, hundreds of cars burned, all in extreme violence. There is no control.

Just last night:

• 41 police stations attacked
• 79 police injured
• 2560 fires in streets
• 1360 cars burnt
• 234 buildings burnt

Rebellion (or mutiny) Against Putin Ended, Prigozhin goes to Belarus
 
Last Friday, Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin revolted against Russian military leadership and led his troops on a march toward Moscow. Then, in the space of less than 24 hours, after negotiations with the president of Belarus, Prigozhin called off the rebellion and agreed to go into exile in Belarus.

No matter what happens, the short-lived revolt is a prime example of how quickly an unexpected crisis has the potential to dramatically change the present world order.
 
Only God knows what the future holds, and we can be grateful that history is in His hands. Foreshadows

What the US Media Isn’t Reporting About Syria

Both Russia and Iran have had a strong presence in Syria in recent years, and have helped dictator Bashar al-Assad to stay in power during the Syrian civil war.
 
The US has also had a presence in Syria, with troops designated to fight ISIS terrorists. The US positions have been protected by US fighter jets.
 
Russia and the US have long had a system in which the two sides have communicated with each other to prevent any possibility of inadvertent conflict between the two. The US fights ISIS, and Russia (along with Iran) is there to keep Assad in power.
 
But since March, Russia has broken away from the rules set to prevent any possibility of conflict. Russian aircraft have been flying directly over US positions, sometimes multiple times a day, and sometimes with bombs on the jets.
 
At the same time, terrorist militia proxies supported by Iran have been directly harassing US positions and individuals in Syria.
 
It appears that Russia and Iran are now working together in a secret and coordinated effort to intimidate and pressure the US to withdraw from Syria—to the point of carrying out targeted attacks.
 
Because the US has been supporting Ukraine in the Russia-Ukraine war, President Putin of Russia is glad to look for ways to harass the US however he can.
 
It’s becoming clear that Russia and Iran are coordinating their efforts at higher levels than ever before. Should the US end up leaving Syria, that would leave the entire country available for Russia and Iran to develop a major military presence that would pose a threat to Israel.
 
All of this is in line with what Ezekiel 38 tells us to expect with regard to future alliances between Russia, Iran, Turkey, and other countries that will attack Israel in the end times. Foreshadows

Undoubtedly, we are witnessing the CONVERGENCE of numerous events — all prophesied in the Bible happening all at once! Unfortunately, things are going to get way worse before Jesus comes for His born-again believers in the Rapture.

Canadian Fires Continue to Burn

According to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC), which maintains records on the number of fires and the amount of land burned in the country, a new record for acres burned was established on Saturday, June 24. As of Monday, over 19 million acres of land have burned so far this year. This eclipses the previous record of 17,559,303 acres from 1995 (records have been maintained for the country by CIFFC since 1983).

CIFFC data as of Tuesday morning also indicated that there were 492 active fires across the country, and a total of nearly 3,000 have burned since the beginning of the year. Officials were responding to 89 fires in Alberta, the most of any province in the country, with Quebec not far behind at 81.

Smoke and haze still plague the northeast U.S. from Chicago to New England.

• Malawi – Zambesi Mission: Cyclone Freddy has had a devastating impact on southern Malawi.  Torrential rain led to flash flooding and huge mudslides. As of 18th March, 445 people had died, around 363,000 people displaced and 282 are still missing. The fatalities include ten members of one family from Chilobwe Zambezi Evangelical Church in Blantyre, who were tragically swept away when a raging torrent engulfed the house that they were sleeping in. Please pray for the ongoing disaster relief effort.  Pray too that the mission would have sufficient resources to help meet the enormous needs that their church partners are facing.

Global Earthquakes

Using the mobile app QuakeFeed, I check the global earthquakes a few times a day. I like the European (EMSC) model, which shows quakes 2.0 magnitude and higher all over the world. All this week, while there weren’t many over 5.8, there have been a lot of clusters and swarms in the areas of the Philippines, Indonesia, Turkey, Central America, the Azores (N. Atlantic), and Puerto Rico. Each time I check, there are around 250 earthquakes over a 24 hour period.

Increased Christian Persecution

• Vietnam: In the central highlands, two members from the United States Consulate were stopped by locals, including the police, from visiting churches and believers to investigate reports of persecution. Pray that believers will persevere in their faith and that the local authorities will allow churches to operate.
• Burkina Faso: In February 2023, jihadists burned and destroyed Pastor Laurent’s church in eastern Burkina Faso. Then, in March 2023, jihadists abducted Pastor Laurent when he traveled to attend a regional pastors’ meeting. As the kidnappers forced him into the bush, he sent one text to his family, who haven’t heard from him since. A local villager later reported seeing him bound, blindfolded and being transported by the Islamic militants to a different area. VOM has helped his wife and six children move to a more secure location. The family asks for prayers that Pastor Laurent’s life will be preserved and that he will be set free.
• Bangladesh: Sabina is fearful after an influential local man interrupted one of her literacy classes and threatened her if she used it to teach Christianity. Students are now afraid to attend, so Sabina has started visiting them. The class is greatly impacting the community. Pray that this will continue.
• Bangladesh: Recently, Muslim groups have cautioned students from attending these literacy classes, saying they will “fall into trouble” if they go. Pray for this fear and intimidation to end and for greater acceptance of religious diversity.
• Sri Lanka: “This one incident accomplished what I couldn’t have done with a thousand sermons.” Even though his church was attacked by Buddhist extremists, Pastor Indunil praises God for the spiritual growth he has seen after the attack. Praise God for bringing good out of this situation.
• Nepal: Christians are facing increasing hostility from Hindu activists. In one incident, two believers were detained for six hours for street preaching. Elsewhere, two Christians were pressured into burning a Bible in front of a watching crowd. Ask the Lord to embolden believers amid opposition.
• Christian Family Traumatized by Ethnic Violence in India

• Indonesia: Today we are praying for J, reaching out with the gospel among coffee farmers on the island of Sumatra. He recently received a motorbike to help him in the ministry. Please pray for safety and protection as he travels and serves the Lord in this predominantly Muslim area.
• Indonesia: Since becoming a Christian, Subekti’s* transformation has amazed his friends, but his family doesn’t want him at home. He lives on his rickshaw but he’s content. “I sit here and wait for passengers while reading the Bible or other discipleship books,” he says. Pray that Subekti’s rickshaw journeys will lead others to Jesus.
• Sri Lanka: Pray that the courageous Christians in the southern province of Sri Lanka will remain steadfast and continue to share the gospel with others in their community.
• Sri Lanka: Pastor Indunil’s strength has encouraged other Christians to come out of hiding and the Christian church is now more visible than ever before. Pray that this church will be a beacon of light and hope in the region.
• Middle East – WEC: One couple has been getting more involved with ex-pat Arabs from a Christian background. One week they told the story of the 10th plague of Exodus to a small group. A new participant turned up, so they hesitated, thinking it may be awkward to tell this story, but it was the ‘next one’ on the list. So, they were humbled and encouraged to see the engagement of all who attended, including the new person. God’s Word does what He needs it to! Pray for local people to join this group.
• Tanzania – Church Mission Society: Christine and David Torrance are CMS mission partners newly arrived in Kondoa, Tanzania, where they are looking to come alongside local Christians in discipleship and ministry and David teaches at Kondoa Bible College. Christine and David ask for prayer that Jesus remain their first love, for more of the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives and for David as he begins teaching theology in Swahili.
