I end each of my podcasts and blog articles with “Soli Deo Gloria” which is a Latin phrase that means to God alone be the Glory. I’m not taking credit for my work because it comes from the Holy Spirit. It’s one of the “5 Solas”. There are 4 other “Solas” that tell the truth about the salvation of Jesus Christ. They are the backbone of Christianity. Let’s dig in…
What are the 5 Solas?
The 5 Solas came out of the Protestant Reformation in the 16th Century…
The Reformers were guided by the conviction that the church of their day had drifted away from the essential, original teachings of Christianity, especially in regard to what it was teaching about salvation—how people can be forgiven of sin through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and receive eternal life with God. The Reformation sought to re-orient Christianity on the original message of Jesus and the early church.
The Five Solas are five Latin phrases (or slogans) that emerged during the Reformation to summarize the Reformers’ theological convictions about the essentials of Christianity.

The 5 Solas
- Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”): The Bible alone is our highest authority.
- Sola Fide (“Faith alone”): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
- Sola Gratia (“Grace alone”): We are saved by the grace of God alone.
- Solus Christus (“Christ alone”): Jesus Christ alone is our Savior, Redeemer, Lord, and King
- Soli Deo Gloria (“to God alone be the Glory.”): It’s all about God, not us.
Sola Scriptura – Scripture Alone
You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
2 Timothy 3:15-17 NLT
Unfortunately, there are many churches today that preach a watered-down gospel. They avoid talking about things that people don’t like. It’s up to you to seek the truth by studying the Bible for yourself. Find a true, Bible-believing church — usually non-denominational — and listen carefully to what they teach.
Sola Fide – Faith Alone
For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
Romans 10:10 NLT
You first have to believe — have faith — that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died once and for all taking our sins away from us. He redeemed our sin-judgement of death for a 1-way, non-stop ticket to heaven.
Sola Gratia – Grace Alone
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
Ephesians 2:8 NLT
God’s grace is a free gift given to us for our salvation. It is only through His gift of Grace that we are saved.
Solus Christus – Christ Alone
There were many priests under the old system, for death prevented them from remaining in office. But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.
He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven. Unlike those other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when he offered himself as the sacrifice for the people’s sins.
Hebrews 7:23-27 NLT
Jesus is our one and only priest because He never sinned. A human priest does not have the power to absolve us from our sins. Jesus already did that on the cross where He defeated sin. He took all our sins away forever. Jesus is the only one who can forgive us and grant us salvation.
Soli Deo Gloria – to God Alone be the Glory
So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31 NLT
Everything that you do — do it for the Glory of God rather than for your own boasting or gratification.
Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.
Romans 6:13 NLT
I believe we are on the brink of a new Reformation. Definitely in a new Great Awakening. It’s time to turn away from religions that lay down laws to follow that send you nowhere but to hell. That’s the truth — like it or not.
It’s time for you to seek the gospel truth!
If you want the assurance of a 1-way, non-stop ticket to Heaven then you must…
Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit.
- Believe — have Faith — that Jesus is the Christ and He died taking your sins away forever and that He rose from the dead 3 days later.
- Repent of your sins — stop sinning! Do a complete 180-degree turn in your life and surrender your life to Him. When you ask Jesus to forgive you He will. ALL your sins will be wiped clean — past, present, and future! And All means ALL!
- Be Baptized by water baptism — show the world and yourself that you have died to your old life and are born again in Christ.
- Receive the gift of Holy Spirit in your heart.
Invite Jesus into Your Heart and Receive the Gift of Grace, Joy, Peace, and the Confident Hope of Eternal Life…
Pray this prayer humbly and wholeheartedly…
“Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Please forgive me. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life to you. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. I will follow you for the rest of my life. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
“And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.”
Matthew 24:14 NLT
