I just think it’s ironic that Hurricane Hilary — Hilary — of all names, is going to hit Southern California and they haven’t had a storm in 84 years! They’d better get their act together! Florida grew complacent in the 24 years before Andrew hit. Just sayin’. Right now it’s a Cat.2 as it’s starting to whip the Mexican Baja Penninsula. (See the video below.) I pray for the homeless in the streets in California and the immigrants. I pray that the people will be wise and stay safe.

A Miraculous Escape

Pastor Jon*, somewhere in the Middle East, while preaching in his church…

…suddenly felt compelled to pray for a man who had entered his church and sat in the front row. “He was sitting in front of me,” Jon said, “and God told me, ‘He has a bomb. He is going to blast it very soon.'”

Jon prayed, “Lord, you care for this person; touch him,” and the man started to cry.

After opening his jacket to reveal the explosives, the man said, “See, I have all these things; I want to blast. But I feel the love of Christ. I want to receive it.” The bomber claimed he had been sent by al-Qaeda, but instead of blowing up the church, he placed his faith in Christ and was baptized that day.

While such miraculous escapes have been a regular part of Jon and Grace’s (his wife) life together, they and other Christians in their country know that a violent death is always a possibility. (From the Voice of the Martyrs monthly magazine.)

• Thailand: Please pray for a missionary couple serving among the Malay people in southern Thailand. They request prayer for a new media campaign that will reach Muslims with the gospel.
• Vietnam: Earlier this year, Open Doors partners ran leadership training for young people to equip them in church ministry. About 90 youth attended!
• China: Praise God that the New Testament has now been recorded in dialects of three Buddhist ethnic minorities in China. Pray for our team’s continued safety as they begin work on recordings of the Old Testament in these same dialects.
• Bolivia – Church Mission Society: Mission partners Andrew and Lisa Peart are based in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, where they are part of Cristo Luz del Mundo, a church located in the heart of the financial and residential centre of the city. Hundreds of new flats (apartments) are being built in the immediate area, and the church is developing a community garden on the church property. Pray for God to guide the church in creating a tranquil space where people will find rest from the outside world and connect with each other and God.
