Israel & the Middle East

“Safe Air Protocols” Coming to an End in Syrian Airspace

During the Syrian civil war, the US and Russia—and Israel and Russia—have had protocols in place over Syrian airspace in order to prevent potential clashes. Russia, the US, and Israel have all made sure to not end up in direct conflict with one another as they carry out their missions over Syria.

This has allowed Israel to do defensive airstrikes in Syria—strikes intended to destroy Iranian weapons shipped into Syria for use against Israel.

But a US military official says that Russia is bringing an end to the protocols. This hasn’t been confirmed yet, and the US and Israel are unsure of how this will affect future efforts to keep Israel safe.

But if the protocols do end, it would seriously diminish Israel’s ability to prevent Iran from building up weapons stockpiles in Syria, which is right on Israel’s northeastern border. Foreshadows

• Millions in the US under air quality alerts as Canada wildfires rage, Worst air quality in 20 years grips NY City.
• Evacuations begin in the Philippines as Mayon volcano simmers
• Puerto Rico shatters record with a 125-degree heat index, producing power outages and serious health risks. Take 95 degrees, add high humidity and low winds and you have horrible heat conditions. They blame “climate change”, but a high of 95 degrees is not unusual for PR. I know, I lived there for 8 years.
• Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted again on the Big Island.
• Devastating floods hit Ecuador, extensive damage reported in Esmeraldas Province.
• Widespread floods and landslides hit Haiti, leaving 15 people dead and 8 missing.
• Tropical Storm “Mawar” triggers landslides and flooding in Japan, leaving 2 dead and 5 missing. This is the same storm that went over Guam last week.
• CDC warns of deadly bacteria with 50% fatality rate that has been declared endemic to the US Gulf Coast.

• Saudi Arabia decided to cut its oil exports by one million barrels per day, and increases were recorded in world oil prices. The Saudi Energy Minister said in a statement to the media that the country’s output will drop from 10 million barrels a day to only 9, starting this July. (You may have to cut your family road trips short if not out completely.)

• U.S.: A Louisiana farmer loses two-thirds of his restaurant business after calling out Pride Month.
• U.S.: Tennessee Street Preacher says Cash App closed his account for protesting Pride Events, and Drag Shows.

Persecution is persecution. Obviously, we have it easy in North America compared to elsewhere in the world…

• Cameroon: Boko Haram operates in the far north of the country. Church activities have been hindered or disrupted and Christian women risk abduction. Pray that the church will find ways to continue to meet and remain strong, influential and resilient despite the challenges they face.
• Burkina Faso: Village Attacked Second Time
• India: Hindu Extremists Jail Pastors, Close Churches
• Eritrea is one of the hardest places in the world to follow Jesus. Believers are closely monitored, imprisoned, and stigmatized. Pray that attitudes will change and that courageous Christians can speak about why they continue to stand, even in the face of so much risk.
• Despite the hardships, Eritrean Christians like Pastor Gideon remain joyful: “Even when we are in suffering, we rejoice. When people see that, they accept Jesus.” Praise God for their remarkable strength and witness.

• Iran: Please pray for “H”, an Iranian believer who has been praying for his family for the past 18 years since he came to faith. Praise God that almost 30 of his extended family have trusted in Christ. “H” now pastors around 150 believers in a network of house churches spread across 4 cities. 
• Cuba – Viva: Viva’s partner in Havana is one of Viva’s smaller networks worldwide, but its heart for children in vulnerable situations is large and beating strongly! Pray for Viva’s Learning Spaces programme, which is now running in four provinces of the country, with more than 60 children attending.  Not only is Internet access limited and expensive, but technology is also hard to come by, making the ‘easier’ alternative of online programming harder for volunteers and families. Pray for an emerging network in Santa Clara, and for more churches to join as members so that children would be protected from harm in that city.
• Mongolia: Please pray for a newly married couple who met through an outreach programme in Ulaanbatar. They have expressed a desire to start a ministry in another district and plant a church there. Please pray for wisdom and guidance as this vision unfolds in the will of God.
• India: 407 Families Reached, 296 Scriptures & Literature Distributed, 26 Received Christ, 17 People Baptised, 3 Prayer Groups Formed, 2 Churches Planted. These are the figures from a report of just one evangelist working in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Praise the Lord! (See what one dedicated person can do!)
• India: Praise God for BMS World Mission worker Ben Francis, who is bringing revitalisation to many churches in India and around the world through disciple-making movements. Pray for the training of 10,000 church planters who will plant 10,000 house churches. Give thanks, too, that the women working with BMS’ partner Biglife are bold and brilliant in sharing the gospel. Pray for BMS-supported worker Gill Francis as she trains more women as disciple-makers.
• Bhutan: AsiaLink partners in Bhutan request prayer for a young boy suffering many health problems. His parents approached the church leaders, requesting prayer and the boy made some improvement. Praise God, the father became a Christian and is now involved in the church.
• U.S.: Jesus Movement Celebrates ‘Biggest Water Baptism’ in U.S. History
  More than 4,000 people were baptized in a single ceremony in southern California last Sunday to mark the 50th anniversary of the Jesus Movement.
• Missionaries report Muslims encountering Jesus in dreams ‘in levels not seen in 1,400 years. We were praying for this all during Ramada! Prayer works and it doesn’t cost us anything but a little time.
