World Watch 2.25.23: Prophetic, Last Days News Just Like Jesus Said

This week marked the 1-year anniversary of the invasion of Russia in Ukraine. Besides this ongoing conflict, there are more threats of wars, plus more seismic events, enemy deception, and increased Christian persecution. Yet, the Good News of the Salvation of Jesus Christ is still being preached all over the world — just like Jesus said about the last days. Let’s dig in…

By the way, you can find Jesus’ predictions if the last days in the Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24, Luke 21 and Mark 13.

Wars and Threats of Wars

Ukraine 1-Year Anniversary

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has left in its wake more than 8,000 civilians dead and 13,000 injured. More than 90% of the casualties were caused by explosive weapons with wide-area effects, such as artillery shells and airstrikes, United Nations officials announced this week.

Civilians were killed in Ukraine while trying to meet their basic needs, like collecting water and buying food. The war in Ukraine has affected the very young and the very old.

Western intelligence sources estimate that each side has suffered approximately 150,000 casualties since Russia launched its invasion on Feb. 24, 2022. Source

Understanding History to Understand Putin

For those of you who can’t understand the logic of this man and/or that country, one must study history.

In 1943 the Russian Red Army fought the Nazis in the Donbas region and eventually liberated Donetsk from them. The loss of this very rich industrial and agricultural region was a major blow to the Nazi economy.

80 years later and in the eyes of Putin and many of his supporters the Nazis are still there only this time they aren’t German but Ukrainians. Amir Tsarfati

The Belarusian army announced that their missile units have moved to their designated area as part of a combat readiness test. The team will equip the area with the launch positions and prepare equipment for combat use.

We are seeing more and more signs that a “false flag” event may bring the Belarusian army into the war.

Belarus claims: “Significant deployment of Ukrainian forces near the border – we will act against any provocation”

“A year ago, in order to protect our people in our lands and to ensure security for our country and to destroy the threats from the Nazi regime that emerged in Ukraine in 2014, a decision was made on a special military operation. Step by step, we will solve the challenges that face us.”

China Calls for Cease Fire in Russia-Ukraine War

On February 24, 2023, the one-year milestone of the Russia-Ukraine War, China released a 12-point plan that calls for restoring dialogue and bringing an end to the conflict.

A close look reveals the plan clearly favors Russia. None of the points would require Russia to return land taken from Ukraine. One of the points urges an end to sanctions against Russia.

China also insists that other nations should not come to Ukraine’s aid. In the plan, China states, “The security of a country should not be pursued at the expense of others. The security of a region should not be achieved by strengthening or expanding military blocs.” Foreshadows

A Prayer for Ukraine After One Year of War, Destruction & Oppression

Poland is under enormous pressure, and they announced this week that it blocked its border crossings with the Russian Kaliningrad region with "defensive measures". I pray for the Samaritan’s Purse teams who are still on the ground in Ukraine. Put a hedge of protection around them & the refugees, sick & injured people who come to them for help. See to all their needs as Jehovah Jireh — the Great Provider.

We hear talks of peace. But they are not rooted in the Prince of Peace. Prophetically speaking, this will get way worse before the rapture and 1000 times worse during the Great Tribulation. The only hope is to root yourself in the Prince of Peace.

UN Calls for Global Restrictions on Internet Speech

On Wednesday, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) hosted the “Internet for Trust Conference.”

The speakers at the conference called for the global regulation of speech on the internet, saying it was needed to prevent hate speech and the spread of misinformation.

UNESCO is urging world governments to work together to create “global guidelines for the regulation of social media.” At the same time, speakers demanded that individual countries should NOT be permitted to create their own guidelines.

WHO’s Intergovernmental Negotiating Body will meet on February 27 to discuss the final terms, which all 194 member nations are expected to ratify and sign. The current US administration has long expressed strong support for WHO to wield this kind of authority.

Increased Christian Persecution

Open Doors 2023 World Watch List on Christian Persecution

Indonesia #33

Doni* converted from Islam to Christianity about five years ago – and has been rejected by his wider family because of this.
Doni used to have his own coffee shop in the city. However, it went bankrupt during the pandemic. Having nothing to survive in the city, he decided to move back to his hometown, with his wife and one-year-old, to live with his mother.
“There, I faced persecution because I am a Christian,” he says. “My mum tried to compel me to return to Islam.” She didn’t just use verbal persuasion and abuse, though these were very hard for Doni. She also taught Doni’s child to pray Muslim prayers, and tried to take away their food when Doni refused to give up his faith in Jesus: “She hid the rice so that my family and I could not eat.”
“I decided to leave and started a new life,” he says. His mother, however, cursed them and said that he and his family would have an accident and die while traveling to the city. Doni was deeply hurt by this.
Open Doors partners have been able to find a house for Doni and his family to live in, and have given him help with a new food business.

More on Christian Persecution

Paul wrote…

We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. 10 Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.

13 But we continue to preach because we have the same kind of faith the psalmist had when he said, “I believed in God, so I spoke.”

2 Corinthians 4:8-10, 13 NLT

Good News! The Gospel Around the World!

Jesus said regarding the last days, “For the Good News must first be preached to all nations (peoples).” (Mark 13:10)

Yes, there is bad news all over the world. Nevertheless, there is also great news — signs of hope — that Christians are doing what Jesus told us to do in the Great Commission and before He left us.

Check these out and pray for them…

  • SE Asia: Spreading the Good News in a Muslim-dominated Nation
  • Saudi Arabia: Conversion from Islam to Christianity is unacceptable under Islamic law, many Christian converts live as secret believers. Despite the risks, the small number of Saudi Christians is slowly increasing, and boldly sharing their faith on the Internet and Christian satellite TV channels. Thank God that isolated secret believers find ways to connect with other believers online.
  • Bangladesh: Pray for a network of youth groups that gather regularly to study the bible and prepare young people to share their faith. Remember the team of around 100 volunteers who give leadership to these groups. Please pray that each young person would “grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.”
  • Nepal: Teenager Follows Christ Despite Family Pressure

Central Asia – Feba UK

In an area where sharing the gospel is dangerous, we praise God for the huge increase in people responding to the daily programmes on medium and shortwave radio. Please pray for the listeners, especially those who have suffered the loss of homes, livelihoods and family members in the wake of recent widespread flooding. Also please pray for listeners who are facing serious security threats, human rights abuses and harsh restrictions from those in authority in the region. (2 Corinthians 4 v 8 – 12)

GO SEE IT!

20 But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit,[g] 21 and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.

Jude 20-21 NLT

Prayer from Tearfund

We have all been through times of wilderness. Times of uncertainty, of challenge, of doubt. Times when it has felt as though there isn’t a way out. God of the wilderness, help us to hold on to hope in times of uncertainty, difficulty and pain. Thank you that the wilderness itself can become the way. Lead us, God, lead us.

Jesus, our Strong Fortress, we surrender our lives to you as we trust in your sovereign plan. In Jesus’ name, amen.
