World Watch 2.4.23: Prophetic, Last Days News Just Like Jesus Said

The biggest news story this week is undoubtedly the saga of the Chinese spy balloon. We’ve got this and much more in this week’s World Watch update of End Times and Last Days prophetic news items. Let’s dig in…

Wars and Threats of Wars

At the Mount of Olives, Jesus’ disciples asked Him, “What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?” He replied…

And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.

Matthew 24:6-7 NLT

Also found in Luke 21 and Mark 13.

The Chinese Spy Balloon

It was first spotted, and reported by mainstream media, over Billings, Montana, Feb. 2. The U.S. government determined it was a Chinese surveillance balloon. The U.S. military decided not to shoot it down while it was over land because it was presumably the size of 2 buses and it may harm people on the ground.

It was shot down today, Feb. 4, over the Atlantic off the coast of South Carolina. Consequently, the plan is to retrieve it.

In Montana there is a Maelstrom base, where nuclear missiles are stored in silo-type storage facilities. “It is clear that the intention of this balloon is for surveillance. The current flight path does carry it over a number of sensitive sites,” said senior American officials.

Similar balloons have also been sited over Canada, Central, and South America.

According to Bloomberg, the Biden administration became aware of the existence of the Chinese balloon that entered US territory for the first time on January 28, and decided not to share the information with the public — until a photo of the balloon was published in a local American media outlet. This led to the decision to disclose the information in an official capacity.

As it turns out, the manufacturer of the Chinese Spy Balloon, China Zhuzhou Rubber Research & Design Institute, is a government-owned military research institute with weapon production licenses. Some say this technology is capable of deploying an electromagnetic pulse attacks and biochemical weapons.

US officials believe the high-altitude balloon that floated at 60-70,000 feet over the continental US is part of a broader Chinese spying program.

  • US Military Presence to Increase in the Philippines: The US has been granted access to four military bases in the Philippines, primarily to help monitor Chinese aggression around Taiwan and in the South China Sea and fill a strategic gap where flashpoints could occur. The bases have not been identified, and could be used both as staging grounds and for providing humanitarian aid to evacuees from Taiwan.
Chinese officials were critical of the agreement and said that “US actions [are] escalating regional tension and undermining regional peace and stability.” Foreshadows

Earthquakes (“seismic” events), Economic Woes, Famines & Plagues

Jesus told us that in the last days…

11 There will be great earthquakes, and there will be famines and plagues in many lands, and there will be terrifying things and great miraculous signs from heaven.

Luke 21:11 NLT

The Greek word for “earthquakes” is “seismos” which also covers floods, turbulence, hurricanes, blizzards, atmospheric rivers, wildfires, and volcanoes. It’s WEATHER, pure and simple! Consequently, plagues and pestilences lead to economic woes, which lead to food crises and famines.

Economic Warning Signs Not Seen Since Great Depression

E.J. Antoni, a research fellow for Regional Economics at The Heritage Foundation, says that the most troubling economic sign in the US today is the more than $1 trillion drop in real disposable income during 2022.

He says, “For context, this is the second-largest percentage drop in real disposable income ever, behind only 1932, the worst year of the Great Depression. To keep up with inflation, consumers are depleting their savings…Credit card debt continues growing, while savings plummeted $1.6 trillion last year…”

Antoni explains that “because prices have risen so much faster than wages,” the average family “has lost about $6,000 in annual purchasing power.” Foreshadows

God told Israel at the dedication of the first temple…

“When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭7‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Back then, His “people” were the Israelites. Today, it’s every born-again Christian. The further away we turn from Him, the worse it’s going to get.

As in the Days of Lot

Jesus said…

28 And the world will be as it was in the days of Lot. People went about their daily business—eating and drinking, buying and selling, farming and building— 29 until the morning Lot left Sodom. Then fire and burning sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 Yes, it will be ‘business as usual’ right up to the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

Luke 17:28-29 NLT (The First Sin City)

Increased Evil , Lawlessness, and Deception

Jesus warned us…

Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many…

10 And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. 11 And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. 12 Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Matthew 24: 4-5, 10-13 NLT

“You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. (Perilous times, terrible times, very hard times) For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!”

Open Doors 2023 World Watch List on Christian Persecution

Christians are following Jesus
no matter the cost…

Mali #17

“One day, while my husband was on a business trip, he was gunned down. He was killed for his faith… I have no idea what happened to his body.” ~Naomi*, whose husband was killed by jihadists.

Mali has risen several places on the World Watch List this year, and this is due to an increase in pressure in many different areas, particularly the government. Jihadists are expanding and the general situation in the country is deteriorating fast.

Somalia #2

Al Shabaab has increased their stronghold in Somalia. The country is volatile and worryingly dangerous for Christians. Pray for God’s protection over his Church and that each of our brothers and sisters will find continued strength and hope in Jesus. Open Doors

America

A Democratic lawmaker in Nebraska is being accused of “anti-religious bigotry” by Republicans after she proposed to ban children from attending church youth groups or vacation Bible schools.

Latin America

Persecution is worsening in many parts of Latin America, and those who make a stand against criminality and government repression are especially at risk. Ask God to use the boldness of Christians to bring societal change and lead people to Jesus, and pray for their protection. Open Doors

Editor’s Note: You’d think that Latin America would be considered “Christian” because of the Roman Catholic influence. The problem is, that since the Roman Catholic Church doesn’t teach the true Gospel, and the people aren’t rooted in the Word, they easily fall back to ethnic paganism, or atheistic Communism.

China

China is intentionally reducing the number of overseas business people, students and teachers, especially those suspected of affiliation to missionary organizations. Many overseas Christians have had their visa applications rejected. Ask the Holy Spirit to equip Chinese Christians with wisdom and maturity in this season.
Lift up those Christians who have converted from Islam or Buddhism. They face hardships from their communities and even their own families. Pray that their witness will display God’s love in a way that impacts those around them, even those who seek to persecute them. Open Doors

India #11

“When we accepted Christ, the people in our community accused us of taking money to become Christian,” says Mehr* (former Hindu). Many Christians are falsely accused of this, and targeted by the anti-conversion laws that have now been passed in 11 states…

…One day, this escalated into physical violence…

…The people who attacked Mehr and her family are very influential in their community, and they bribed the medical staff to stop treating Mehr because she is a Christian.

Lord, replace lies and discrimination with truth and justice.

Many of us take for granted that we have a safe place to live.
Thank the Lord every day.

Syria #12 – up 3 places

As the Christian population of Syria has diminished due to the civil war, more and more Syrian Christians come from a Muslim background. This makes them additional targets – including from their own family, who may attack or reject converts. A Christian woman who converts while married to a Muslim is likely to face divorce and losing custody of her children, since Sharia (Islamic law) dictates that rights are given to the Muslim parent.

Additionally, every Christian in Syria lives with the constant knowledge that Islamic extremists have not necessarily left Syria – they’ve just retreated into the shadows, and they may return to public life again in the future.

“It’s a prolonged crisis, without seeing an end. On the other hand, we experienced divine light amid darkness.”

Pastor Edward*, who runs a Centre of Hope in Syria

Editor’s Note: I wouldn’t be surprised if the rise of the terrorists that’s happening in Africa spills over to Syria. All emboldened by Biden’s Afghanistan debacle and the Taliban’s rise to power.
Currently, there is a large American presence in Syria. That is probably what’s holding them back. The Islamic Jihadists are waiting for the moment if or when the U.S. pulls out like they did in Afghanistan.

  • Kyrgyzstan: Please pray for those who become Christians in Kyrgyzstan and are often seen as betraying identity and family unity. Recently Kyrgyz Christians have faced opposition from Muslims, but with a new twist. The new strategy is not to persecute Christians, but win them back to Islam through kindness, compassion, sympathy, and shame. (The enemy changes tactics)
  • Brunei features again this year, sitting at number 46 in the new World Watch List of countries where Christians face the most extreme persecution. Please pray especially for many young Christian women in search of a husband, who face great pressure to convert to Islam. AsiaLink

Good News! The Gospel Around the World!

In the middle of the Olivet Discourse, Mark notes something important that Jesus said regarding the last days…

10 For the Good News must first be preached to all nations (peoples).

Mark 13:10

Each week after reporting the bad news, I showcase some of the great news — the signs of hope — around the world that Christians are doing what Jesus told us to do in the Great Commission and before He left us. Check these out and pray for them…

  • North Korea: Despite being forbidden to meet for Christian activities, secret believers still courageously gather to encourage one another, pray and share fellowship. Pray that meetings will be protected from the prying eyes of the authorities. If they are caught, they could be killed or sent to work camps.
  • China: Our partners in China have been able to deliver discipleship training, and persecution survival training. Christians are learning how to navigate oppression and suffering. Ask God for his continued blessings over these sessions and to build up the workers who deliver the training. Open Doors
  • Bhutan: Please pray for a church-planting meeting in southern Bhutan. Ask God to bless the labours of the pastor who leads this fellowship. Serving in this isolated location and in such a spiritually dark place, he will greatly value your prayer support. AsiaLink
  • New Zealand: Student Lelea asks us to pray for the Christian student ministry in her university: “We want to follow Jesus in all aspects of our lives, every day of the week – that God might use us to draw others to himself. The majority of New Zealanders, and most of our friends, identify as having no religion. Our university lecturers can be scathing about Christianity. There’s lots of pressure to shrink back and fit in. At the same time, however, general “spirituality” is becoming more attractive to young people; there are gospel opportunities with that!” (IFES)
  • Cuba: Sledgehammers, Buldozers and Imprisonments Can’t Stop the Gospel: One Cuban pastor was told by a senior UN official that he could speak to the Pope, the president of the United States and Cuba’s leader on behalf of Cuban Christians. “What would you like me to tell them to do for the church in Cuba?” the UN official asked. The pastor replied that they do not want anything from the Pope, the president or Cuba’s leader.
“We are not asking for persecution to be removed,” he told the official. “We just want people to pray that we remain faithful.”

Paul wrote some words of encouragement…

“We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies. So we live in the face of death, but this has resulted in eternal life for you.”

2 Corinthians 4:8-12 NLT
