We’re back on the Saturday schedule and there’s so much happening around the world in these last days. It amazes me how Jesus absolutely called it nearly 2000 years ago! I’ve added a new section at the end which focuses on Matthew 24:14. It’s all about the Good News — the Gospel being preached all over the world. Let’s dig in…
Signs of the Last Days
At the Mount of Olives, Jesus’ disciples asked him…
What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?”…

- Iran Announces Plans to Station Warships in Panama Canal: The commander of Iran’s navy has stated that by the end of 2023, Iranian navy vessels will be stationed in the Panama Canal.
This is part of Iran’s efforts to increase its military presence in Latin America, especially in an effort to provide support for dictator Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela.
In connection with the announcement, an Iranian government-run news agency boasted on its website about the fact that Iran’s “navy units are getting closer to the coasts of the Americas.” Foreshadows

The Middle East
- The Taliban to Get $700 Million from China: China has signed a 25-year agreement with the terrorist government of Afghanistan that promises $700 million to be used toward oil exploration over the next four years. Further investments will continue beyond that.
Afghanistan has an estimated $1 trillion in untapped natural resources that China is eager to exploit. The agreement is likely one of more to come, which will bankroll the Taliban’s extensive terrorist activities. Foreshadows - Prophetically Significant Changes Occurring in Syria: In 2015, the dictator of Syria, Bashar Al-Assad, asked Russia for military help in the Syrian civil war. Russia’s assistance was effective and enabled Al-Assad to stay in power.
But Russia’s war against Ukraine is forcing Russia to move some of its manpower from Syria to the Ukraine front. This has opened the door for both Turkey and Iran to aggressively increase their military presence in Syria.
What all this means is that the anti-US and anti-Israel military presence in Syria is escalating.
This endangers Israel and diminishes the US’s ability to keep the region stable.

The Greek word for “earthquakes” is “seismos” which also covers floods, turbulence, hurricanes, blizzards, atmospheric rivers, wildfires, and volcanoes. It’s WEATHER, pure and simple! Consequently, plagues and pestilences lead to economic woes, which lead to food crises and famines.

- California was pummeled by Landslides, sinkholes, and floodwaters, 200k were without power, 17 deaths, and thousands were evacuated
- Major rainfall event for the Philippines, new cyclone threatening Madagascar
- Tornadoes rip across six states across the southeast killing 6 in Alabama
- Malawi experienced a devastating hailstorm at the end of November that brought heavy and large hail with strong winds. The locals had never seen hail like it before and it left many homes, schools, and businesses with badly damaged properties.
The crops were damaged by the hail, which will lead to a poor harvest.

Government Power Imposed Through Businesses
The idea of governments using businesses to extend control over their subjects continues to gain traction. That’s what happened during the COVID pandemic—the US government pressured companies like Facebook and Twitter to suppress and censor any information that went against the government’s narrative about the virus and vaccine mandates.
The World Economic Forum (WEF)—which meets next week in Davos, Switzerland—encourages such activity. In a news release on January 10, the WEF said there is a need for “increased cooperation between the government and business sectors.”
The release went on to say that the world leaders who gather at next week’s summit “come as governments increasingly look to business to take big ideas and put them into action quickly and incisively.” Foreshadows
The WEF: Another Call for Authoritarian Global Leadership
The World Economic Forum (WEF) has released its annual Global Risks Report, which states that the cost-of-living crisis is a top global risk today—including “energy, inflation, food and security crises.” The report warns about the threat of “resource rivalry” as nations compete for diminishing food, water, and energy resources.
WEF managing director Saadia Zahidi believes a “vicious cycle” is approaching, in which “rising global risks, a new shock event, from a new military conflict to a new virus, could become unmanageable.”
In a TV interview, she stated, “Very few leaders in today’s generation have been through this kind of traditional risks around food and energy, while at the same time battling what’s coming up in terms of debt…[and] in terms of climate.”
Zahidi then said, “We’re going to need a sort of new type of leadership that is much more agile.”

New Teacher Licensing Requirements in Minnesota to Effectively Ban Christian, Jewish Teachers
Joy Pullmann at The Federalist reports that the licensing board of Minnesota’s Department of Education is preparing to implement new requirements upon those seeking certification to teach.
The requirements are to go into effect soon, and state that all teaching candidates must “affirm the validity of students’ backgrounds and identities” by positively affirming their racial, gender, and sexual identities.
The standards also mandate that teachers promote critical race theory, anti-racism, and equity as defined by advocates of critical theory and transgender ideology.
In response, Doug Seaton, the president of Minnesota’s Upper Midwest Law Center and a civil liberties attorney, said that the licensing board “has made it impossible for those practicing orthodox Christianity and Judaism, as just two examples, to freely exercise their religion and simultaneously hold a teaching license.”
My commentary: In plain language, this is called forced compliance. It’s what authoritarian governments do to impose ideological conformity on their subjects.
