3 Psalms Where King David Noted All the Great Things God Did

As King David nears the end of his life, we read some of his psalms where he reflects on all the great things God did. There are hidden prophecies, but most important, we see here how God works and how through His everlasting love for us, has a plan for you and me. Let’s dig in….

Psalm 8

O Lord, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth,
Who have set Your glory above the heavens!

² Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have ordained strength,
Because of Your enemies,
That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

³ When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
⁴ What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
⁵ For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

⁶ You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,
⁷ All sheep and oxen—
Even the beasts of the field,
⁸ The birds of the air,
And the fish of the sea
That pass through the paths of the seas.

⁹ O Lord, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth!

Psalm 8 NJKV

In Matthew 21 after Jesus clears the money changers out of the temple, he quotes verse 2 to the Pharisees…

¹⁴ Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. ¹⁵ But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant ¹⁶ and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?”

And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read,

‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have perfected praise’?”

Matthew 21:14-16 NKJV

Notice that the word “strength” in the psalm becomes “perfected” through Jesus. With His strength, we are perfected and made complete. He is the author and finisher of our faith. (Hebrews 12)

Verse 4: God is mindful of you and me. We, here on earth, are in a fallen state because of Adam, the first man. Jesus, made human, just a little lower than the angels, undid the curse of Adam on the cross. We reach our full, true potential, not by seeking to be our own God, but by bowing down to the True God. By humbling ourselves and admitting we are sinners.

Psalm 9

¹ I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart;
    I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.
² I will be filled with joy because of you.
    I will sing praises to your name, O Most High.

³ My enemies retreated;
    they staggered and died when you appeared.
⁴ For you have judged in my favor;
    from your throne you have judged with fairness.
⁵ You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked;
    you have erased their names forever.
⁶ The enemy is finished, in endless ruins;
    the cities you uprooted are now forgotten.

⁷ But the Lord reigns forever,
    executing judgment from his throne.
⁸ He will judge the world with justice
    and rule the nations with fairness.
⁹ The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed,
    a refuge in times of trouble.
¹⁰ Those who know your name trust in you,
    for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you.

¹¹ Sing praises to the Lord who reigns in Jerusalem(Zion).
    Tell the world about his unforgettable deeds.
¹² For he who avenges murder cares for the helpless.
    He does not ignore the cries of those who suffer.

¹³ Lord, have mercy on me.
    See how my enemies torment me.
    Snatch me back from the jaws of death.
¹⁴ Save me so I can praise you publicly at Jerusalem’s gates,
    so I can rejoice that you have rescued me.

¹⁵ The nations have fallen into the pit they dug for others.
    Their own feet have been caught in the trap they set.
¹⁶ The Lord is known for his justice.
    The wicked are trapped by their own deeds. Quiet Interlude(Selah)

¹⁷ The wicked will go down to the grave (Sheol).
    This is the fate of all the nations who ignore God.
¹⁸ But the needy will not be ignored forever;
    the hopes of the poor will not always be crushed.

¹⁹ Arise, O Lord!
    Do not let mere mortals defy you!
    Judge the nations!
²⁰ Make them tremble in fear, O Lord.
    Let the nations know they are merely human. Interlude

Psalm 9 NLT

The first 2 verses are the 4 “I wills” of worship: praise, tell, rejoice and sing. How do YOU worship God?

Refuge – a safe house. Right now there are Christians in Afghanistan hiding in safe houses and in the hills and mountains from the Taliban who want to kill them.

The rest of the psalm are promises of God that the wicked will get theirs. We know that WILL happen in the Book of Revelation.

Psalm 103

Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
² Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
³ Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
⁴ Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
⁵ Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

⁶ The Lord executes righteousness
And justice for all who are oppressed.
⁷ He made known His ways to Moses,
His acts to the children of Israel.
⁸ The Lord is merciful and gracious,
Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
⁹ He will not always strive with us,
Nor will He keep His anger forever.
¹⁰ He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor punished us according to our iniquities.

¹¹ For as the heavens are high above the earth,
So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
¹² As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
¹³ As a father pities his children,
So the Lord pities those who fear Him.
¹⁴ For He knows our frame;
He remembers that we are dust.

¹⁵ As for man, his days are like grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
¹⁶ For the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
And its place remembers it no more.
¹⁷ But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
On those who fear Him,
And His righteousness to children’s children,
¹⁸ To such as keep His covenant,
And to those who remember His commandments to do them.

¹⁹ The Lord has established His throne in heaven,
And His kingdom rules over all.

²⁰ Bless the Lord, you His angels,
Who excel in strength, who do His word,
Heeding the voice of His word.

You ministers of His, who do His pleasure.

In all places of His dominion.

Psalm 103 NJKV

Here we see the intensity of worship. One thing is going to church and behaving like robots — sit down, stand up, kneel down, say this, say that — NO! That’s not worship that’s religion! Those are rituals! That’s what the pagans do.

When you worship God, worship with your WHOLE SOUL!

In verse 3 we are not promised complete healing here on earth. Yes, God does perform healing miracles. 3 friends of mine, that I was praying to Jehovah Rapha — the God who heals — the Great Physician — for complete and total healing, are completely and totally healed with their glorified bodies in Heaven with Jesus.

How far is the east from the west?

If you travel north, eventually, you will reach the North Pole and then start heading south. If you travel east, you’ll be traveling east forever. You’ll never meet the west. That’s how far Jesus has taken our sins away. If you repent and believe that Jesus did this, you are free from religious rituals! (Verse 4)

How long is forever? How long is everlasting? How long is eternity? Get it?

We are Dust

We are but dust — add the Living Water of the Holy Spirit and we turn into clay that the Master Potter can work and mold and form into His image.
